I've got GMail!



At last I managed to get my hands on a GMail invite thanks to Ark. This means I can ditch my Hotmail account which I've had since I got online back in the days when AOL was the only ISP. Now that's a long time ago!!

Now I know a lot of you are thinking "why does Jon want another email account?" Well it's one way of separating email coming from mailing lists and forums and keeping it away from my main jon.fry email account.

Microsoft are removing access to their Hotmail service via Outlook (and Outlook Express & any other program which uses their WebDav HTTP protocol to retrieve messages) which makes my Hotmail account completely useless being only a magnet for SPAM. As such I've been hoping for a GMail account for months which is a far superior product and allows access via POP aswell as email forwarding, archiving and message threads.

Unfortunately Microsoft have decided they want people like me to visit their web site instead to retrieve their email which is fine if I wasn't bombarded by adverts followed by viewing an inbox full of SPAM because their SPAM filters don't work.

Bye bye Hotmail and hello GMail.
